Choosing the Perfect Wedding Suit for You

Most couples put an awful lot of work into planning their weddings: organising the catering and the entertainment, choosing the venue, the rings and the flower arrangements all takes a great deal of time and effort. If you want to make sure that you enjoy the day itself and are able to look back on it with fond memories, choosing the right suit to wear on your wedding day is one of the most crucial tasks you will face. Get it right and you will feel confident, relaxed and at your very best throughout the ceremony and the reception afterwards. Get it wrong and you will probably feel uncomfortable and distracted. In this article, we are going to take a look at the most important factors for grooms to consider when buying wedding suits.

What You Need to Consider When Choosing Wedding Suits:

Whether you dress formally on a daily basis for work and are no stranger to suits or you are almost always in jeans and a tee-shirt, focusing on the points listed below will help to ensure that you make the right decision when it comes to choosing the suit you are going to wear on your wedding day.

Buy, Don’t Rent – While it may seem wasteful to spend a lot of money on a suit that you only wear for a few hours, renting a suit to wear at your wedding is almost always a bad idea. The main problem with wearing a rented suit is that it will not have been made for you and will therefore almost certainly not fit properly. Add to this the fact that most rentals are not made from the best materials and you have a recipe for disaster. If you want to make sure that you look your very best on your big day, we wholeheartedly recommend sticking with tailored wedding suits that are made specifically for you.

Fabric – While some manmade fabrics may weigh less, there really is no substitute for good quality wool when it comes to weddings suits in Sydney. With summer temperatures climbing to over 26 °C, the breathability of wool makes it a clear winner as far as most grooms are concerned. If you are planning an early spring or winter wedding, you may wish to consider some of the other fabrics that are on offer but in our opinion, quality wool really is the very best choice for the vast majority of men.

Colour – You might be tempted to make a bold statement on your wedding day by sporting a suit in bright yellow or crimson but take it from us, this is almost always a big mistake. While there is no need for you to look exactly like your groomsmen and you could conceivably choose something a little more flamboyant than navy, grey or black, we generally advise our clients to focus on wedding suits made from fabrics in more traditional colours, which will be complemented by those of the rest of the wedding party. If you are having a themed wedding, the rules are, of course, completely different but for most occasions this advice holds good.

Style – For the most part, the same advice that we give for colour applies to style too. You should opt for something that sets you apart from your groomsmen but to go for a style that is too ‘far out’ is not a good idea in our experience. Your wedding album will be something that you hopefully treasure for the rest of your life so you do not want to look like a clown or a caricature in the formal photos. Whether a classic three-piece wedding suit or a more casual two-piece is the best choice for you will depend on the venue, your personal preferences and your budget but we recommend you keep it real and go for something classy but conservative.

Cost – The type of wedding suits you should be considering will depend partly on how much money you are willing and able to spend. For this reason, it is a good idea to set a budget for your suit before you actually start shopping around. Doing this will help you to avoid wasting time looking at options that are irrelevant to you.

We hope that you find the above advice useful and if you would like to discuss your options in more detail, please do not hesitate to call and book a free consultation with our Sydney wedding suit tailors.
