The Bespoke Corner’s take on all the suiting trends on display from Florence’s most stylish event

While Florence’s bi-annual fashion fair sees its share of avant-garde menswear, Pitti Uomois best known as a setting where the more classic side of men’s style, whether it be razor-sharp three-piece suits or riviera-ready tailoring, is more readily embraced. A beacon of classic, yet modern style, the spectrum of suiting you see on the festival’s attendees acts as an ideal bellwether for the kind of style set to dominate in the seasons to come, and naturally Pitti Uomo 2022 gave us plenty of tailoring trends to reflect on to with the warmer turn rapidly approaching.

Earthy Tones

Browns, greens and other natural tones were seen in abundance throughout this year’s summer 2023 collections, offering plenty of inspiration for gents looking to move away from the traditional black, grey and blue without taking too much of a risk. Adding to this more tonal shift was the rise of more rustic fabrics, from cotton to linen, lending a more deconstructed, casual air to silhouettes like double-breasted blazers and pleated trousers.

Breezy tailoring

The summer heat of Florence’s renaissance urban jungle is always an environment that lends itself well to lightweight tailoring with an artisanal flair-something we saw return in full force both on the street and on the runway. This extended to the colours on display, with plenty of creamy tones, beiges and pastels to be seen, along with the embrace of tailored separates, and lightweight fabrics like linen and Solaro.

Classic patterns

The men of Pitti Uomo rediscovered the art of setting yourself apart from the pack in a subtle way, embracing more elegant patterns in colours and shades that moved away from the bright, bold tailoring that have dominated previous years. Herringbone suits made a big comeback, as did understated glen checks, presented in pared-back pastel tones that set an excellent template for the kind of summer tailoring we’ll soon be stepping into once Australia enters its warmer months.
